Jeff's Rough Morning

I don't normally double-post (scroll on down for your expected dose of silly). I don't normally rear-end drivers on the way to work, either.

That's right, I wrecked the car this morning on the way to work. According to the police report, "driver inattentiveness" on my part is the cause. The driver in front of me was racing along like a wild man, and then with no warning, slammed on his brakes. This appears to not matter in the slightest.

I hope your morning is going better than mine.

Man I hear you are ok, but wow, you went on to work?? And just how did you accomplish that?

The car is drivable. It looks like a Dodge sat on it (which it more or less did), but it still drives. I was almost at work anyway when it happened, so all that was left was to get off the highway and go through downtown. I never got above 30 mph. Lord knows how the car will respond to highway speeds here in a bit. But no fluids leaking, the tires are still inflated... hopefully, the silly thing isn't totaled.

However, I couldn't open the driver's side door. The fender was pushed back just enough to block my door. I had to re-live the Dukes of Hazard to get out.

Man, I'm sorry. Glad that you are OK (I assume). Still a bummer, especially when you're blamed for someone else's madness on the road. However, whoever rear ends is always at fault. Right.

Speaking of rear ending, I got hit on my back bumper a week ago. It was snowing on my way home, and I was stopped at a red light about a mile from the house. A guy in an SUV either didn't brake soon enough or was driving too fast for the slushy roads and slid into me. In this case, the police blamed the weather and didn't cite the guy. Found out the damage was worse than I thought after I got home and saw a huge crack under the snow. Thankfully, his insurance company is paying for the repairs, about $1100 damage. I'm taking the car into the shop tomorrow. I haven't even had it a year. :(

Really sorry to hear of your accident, especially because you're a safe driver (that I know of *wink*). It's sure a pain, and I really empathize with you right now.

An update for you all:

I am a little sore this morning, but not hurt. Physically, anyway.

We got my car into the body shop this morning. The silly thing actually drives as if nothing happened. I'm taking this as a good sign. The driver's side door won't open (fender pushed back) and you have to look over the top of a huge bulge in the hood, but aside from that (and an interesting electrical smell)... *sigh*

After dropping off the car, I came into work in my wife's car. I let out a little involuntary squeal of relief when I drove through the point where I wrecked yesterday.

Sorry to hear about your car, QueenSpoo. I'd be willing to bet that my wreck is more expensive. ;)

My poor car deserves a better owner. (I'm not *quite* done with the self-flagulation, as you can see...)

Glad you're relatively OK. I'm sorry that your bill will likely be more than mine, but I hope they get it back to new again soon! Rest up in the meantime!
