The Big Splash Blog

Yesterday I took the afternoon off so that my wife and I could go to Big Splash. It was grand. We had less than half the crowds we're used to dodging during the weekends.

OwieWe had a little drama on the way to the park. Around 1:30PM yesterday, a large box truck collided with a car on I244. We were driving down the highway when this happened. We couldn't have been more than about 2-3 minutes behind the wreck. There were no police or ambulances there as we drove by. Shortly after we drove by, they closed the highway to clean up the mess.

Absolutely no style pointsThere was some minor drama once we got to the water park, also. We hadn't been there more than 6 minutes before we saw a lady trip over a crack in the pavement and do a face-plant into the unforgiving tundra. She was unhappy.

Greg Louganis won't return my callsBut it wasn't all doom and gloom! Since the crowds were thin, the lifeguards were quite a bit more relaxed. One female lifeguard had a crowd of adoring dorks (no, I was *not* one of them) following her around, begging for her phone number. A male lifeguard was entertaining his fans by leaping off his podium and landing on an inner tube in the wave pool below.

As we left, we walked past a car in the parking lot that had been saran-wrapped shut. Grease-paint on the windows proclaimed that bitter truth: "Paybacks stink!"

It was an afternoon well spent.

We love you, Slim!On an unrelated note, today we in the office are taking Slim out for a goodbye lunch. His last day isn't until Wednesday of next week, but we wanted to be the first of the inevitable throng of adoring masses who will want to shower him with love and cash and signed undergarments and dirty little wadded-up slips of paper with our phone numbers on them.

That is, if I can still move my arms. Ow.
