Super Bowl
I was watching some of the Super Bowl pre-game stuff, and I saw an interesting statistic.
Did you know that approximately eight MILLION pounds of popcorn are consumed on Super Bowl Sunday? The part that really got me was when they said, "That's enough popcorn to circle the Earth 5 and a half times!"
My first thought on hearing this was, is this *really* the best use of our nation's popcorn supply? Let's take the Earth Loopin' popcorn chain and use it for something more economical: Highway surfacing material, Nuclear uranium alternative, Anti-depressant for Republicans. Heck, maybe we could trade a portion of it to the Germans and buy Conan O'Brian a sense of humor.
Then I started to wonder... what else do I not know about the Super Bowl? I did some searching, and came up with these lesser-known facts* about the big game:
1) Bruce Springsteen played outside linebacker for the Steelers in the late 60's. His football career was cut short by a rare injury known as "Tricky Groin".
2) Barak Obama always watches Super Bowls in the nude.
3) Jon Gruden's 2003 post-victory "Gatorade Shower" was the first victory celebration to actually include soap and a loofah.
4) Up to 17% of all Super Bowl parties happen where there is no TV.
5) There have been 18 Super Bowl MVP's with Crew Cuts, 6 with Mullets, 2 Comb-overs and 1 French Braid. But there has never been a Super Bowl MVP with Dreadlocks.
6) Nation-wide double-blind taste-tests reveal that most Americans thought Super Bowl 23 had the best flavor.
7) I took immense pleasure in creating the phrase "Tricky Groin".
* Actually, one of these *is* true. Ish.
